So, I've been an online music fiend for a while, and over the years I have come across some pretty good websites and other places that have good music. I'll be nice enough to share some that I have found, and you can add some as well.
Broken down into Category....
Punk:
Punk Radio Cast -Otherwise known as the PRC (not to be confused with the People's Republic of China), Punk Radiocast is a Canadian punk radio station that plays every type of punk music out there. There are different shows, hours of ungerground and popular punk from all across the globe, and it's pretty awesome. If you want to discover punk, go here. *Also* The Top 40 Countdown that happens every Sunday (I think) can be downloaded as a podcast!
Via The A-Hole -This is a short, 10-20 minute podcast that comes out once a month that features raw punk. To know what I'm talking about, you'd have to download a podcast to see. Prepare your ears for the power of the punk. (It's pretty good if you're into bands like Black Flag or Crass, or the New Bomb Turks)
Metal:
4Q Radio -This is an online radio show that plays all types of metal music, and is run by some guys from the UK. Now, they haven't actually done a show since September of last year but, all of their shows are available as podcasts and they are pretty funny. They even have a section called "Beers of the Week" which is also amusing.
Indie:
Bands Under the Radar (BUTR) -This is a podcast (there is also a website) containing an hour and a half to two hours of indie music per podcast. There are several different styles that are covered in this podcast, and though it's annoying to hear the creater of the podcast talk (because when she speaks, the audio is low) but the songs are of great quality and you are bound to find something you like. On her website, you are able to see all of the tracks featured on the podcasts, and if you actually buy music from iTunes, for the most recent podcasts, her website has a deal where you can get a lot of shows for super cheap (so I hear)
Indie 103.1 -This is an indie radio station stationed in California. It used to actually air on normal radio, but because of too much competition with KROQ and a few some other things, Indie 103.1 decided to go wireless! This is an amazing website radio for indie music (and you will hear music from artists you have heard before, so don't worry), and besides the annoying commercial for LegalZoom (Hi, my name is Robert Shapiro...) that you have to listen to before being able to listen to music, it is possibly the best indie music radio station ever.
*This radio station covers many different genres (I have even heard reggae on there. Seriously.)
Misc. Indie
IndieFeed Music Community -This got a category all by itself because of the range of music it covers. Available via podcast, the IndieFeed music community offers different "channels" that have a single song available for download every few days. The channels that are available are: indie alternative rock, hip hop, electronica, indie pop, dance, and blues. What you may especially like is that at the end of each song, the dj will tell you information about the artist like any upcoming concerts, albums, or even some information about the band that you didn't know about before.
And one more...I can't believe that I forgot it before!
NewNowNext -This is a tv program on LOGO, For those of you who don't know, LOGO is that channel for gay people and etc, but that's not important right now. What is important is that NewNowNext has some of the best indie music ever. That's how I discovered Manchester Orchestra and some other awesome bands. Bascially, it's an hour or half hour of music videos from different indie artists and though some of the videos are weird, you are bound to find some great indie rock. You can trust me on this.

Pandora Internet Radio, find a lot of interesting electronica there. For that matter, a lot of stuff that you like. My station is soooo old. And sometimes confusing, cause I put seeds in to music that I like, and so it has a little bit of everything.
I was going to add Pandora to the list but I didn't for this reason: With Pandora, there are limitless possibilities to what can be on your radio station, but you're the one who limits your choices. Once you've liked something or disliked something, ultimately you've closed off a section of music that could be available to you.
I believe that the best way to discover music is hearing music that isn't of your own choosing because with your choices, you're bound to limit yourself to the artists and same sound that you already listen to, with a small percentage of getting something very different.
Besides, it's sometimes annoying on Pandora when you hear the same songs over and over again (or artists) whether you like them or not.
Yar I agree, I kinda have a ladder style thing going. If i like a song that i haven't heard before, I Ijust add songs I like or havent heard, so yeah its a slower way to do it, but you also find a lot of music that sounds like stuff you like, but didn't know exist. That's how I did it at least, always thumbing up.
I've heard some pretty interesting stuff like that haha.
